Rose Cottage Community

The Rose Cottage Community seeks to bless the wider community through a community centre and cafe.

Rose Cottage was built in the 1830s and gifted to the church.   It has served as a residence for churchwardens, parish officers and curates ever since.   In the 1990s, the ground floor of Rose Cottage was converted into a Community Centre with staff accommodation being available in a flat on the first floor.

Rose Cottage has been a place of creativity and has been used by the community for a wide range of activities – particularly art and art workshops.

In 2007, the emphasis of Rose Cottage changed.  Rather than being a project or social outreach run by the local church, the Rose Cottage Community was formed with a common mission purpose – to bless the wider community through running a community centre and cafe.  Community members have also engaged with the wider community through the development of twerton.com, a community web site, participating in various community groups, and through providing other activities such as toddler groups and art workshops.

Vision

Rose Cottage is:

  • a faith community that seeks to bless the wider community through running a community centre and cafe

We believe:

  • that everyone has a role in the ongoing mission of God in the world
  • that through joining in with the mission, lives can be transformed by Jesus Christ

We aim to:

  • welcome all the people of Twerton – especially the marginalised – those with physical, emotional or mental health issues
  • give people the opportunity to become members of the community by inviting them to join in with the mission and purpose of Rose Cottage
  • create a warm, welcoming and friendly environment – a ‘home away from home’
  • give people the opportunity to encounter Jesus and be sustained in that encounter

We offer:

  • a community of mutual support, encouragement and prayer
  • access to professional support such as debt advice or counselling
  • a place where people can be, share, and learn together
  • written and media resources for Christian discipleship
