Getting married at St Michael’s

Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13.4-7
We are really delighted that you are thinking about getting married in church and have come to St Michael’s. This information has been produced to help you with your planning and to complete all the necessary arrangements.

As a church we are keen to connect with others around the world who are meeting needs and changing lives.  We support Tearfund – an agency that works to alleviate poverty.  Check out this latest campaign about water.

Doughnuts

New Service Times
Since January we have been trying out a whole new way of organising our services on Sunday mornings.  We are really excited about these new changes. if you want to find out more about all this, then click here.
From now on (except for the first Sunday of the month) the gatherings will begin with 45mins of worship (readings, prayers, songs, stillness, visuals, meditations, breaking bread etc) followed by a ‘Doughnut Break’ for about 30mins, followed by a time of learning together (the ‘talky bit’). (see podcasts)
On the first Sunday of every month we have what we have called ‘Sunday Live!’ (I think after a Saturday morning TV show some years back).  Regardless of the name, we will increasingly …

Mondays

For most of the last two thousand years people have associated the word ‘Church’ with something on a Sunday – a service, a mass, a worship event, a teaching hour. As a result other things are also linked to the word – songs, hymns, buildings, pulpits, pews, priests or teachers, worship bands, liturgy… All of these are good things… but…
We want our church here in Twerton to be known for what happens on Mondays not Sundays.
On Mondays we are involved in God’s mission. On Mondays we are praying and connecting with God, on our own and with others. On Mondays we are engaged with the problems of our neighbours and our friends. On Mondays we are wondering what God is …

The future’s orange

Over the next few months (and years) it is my hope that our church here in Twerton will learn to ‘be church’ in a completely new way. Instead of organising ourselves around our services and programmes we want to see what happens when we see ourselves primarily as people engaged on a mission.

Jesus manifesto

This was written by two great guys called Frank Viola and Leonard Sweet… enjoy it!
The centre and circumference of the Christian life is none other than the person of Christ. All other things, including things related to him and about him, are eclipsed by the sight of his peerless worth. Knowing Christ is Eternal Life. And knowing him profoundly, deeply, and in reality, as well as experiencing his unsearchable riches, is the chief pursuit of our lives, as it was for the first Christians. God is not so much about fixing things that have gone wrong in our lives as finding us in our brokenness and giving us Christ.

Inside out

When we think of church many people instantly think of a building and the things that go on inside it. We want to change that and turn it on its head. We want everyone, when they think of St Michaels, to think instantly of people – people like themselves – people making a difference in the world.
We hope that St Michael’s is different.

A new website for a developing vision

Welcome to the new-look website of St Michael’s church.  Things are changing in the way we see ourselves as a church here in Twerton and we hope that our new website will help us all as we build communities that reach out to our neighbours.
Although Christianity has been around for 2000 years the church is constantly being converted and renewed. All churches are different and you may be wondering what this one is like.
It’s not an easy question to answer.
Our church is a very varied group of people who are devoted to Jesus and who are committed to loving God and to loving our neighbours. Most churches organise themselves around their shared services or times of worship. …
